Why we chose Xylitol (& why we’ll never use Stevia)
When creating the formulas for Blessed Beverage Co., one of the hardest choices we faced was picking the right sweetener. We wanted something that tasted good, supported wellness, and aligned with our values—without adding unnecessary junk.
After prayer, research, and plenty of trial and error, we landed on xylitol. It’s a naturally occurring sweetener found in plants and fruits, with a gentle sweetness that doesn’t spike blood sugar or leave a weird aftertaste. It's also safe for teeth and gut-friendly in small amounts.
To be honest, xylitol felt like the “lesser of evils.” In a world full of artificial sweeteners and questionable “natural” options, it was the best fit for our mission.
And as for stevia? That was a hard no.
Not only do we (and many others) find that it has a strong, lingering aftertaste, but research shows that stevia can disrupt hormone balance—especially in women. As a nutritional therapy practitioner, that was a huge red flag. Hormonal health matters, and we won’t compromise it just to follow a trend.
If I had it my way, I’d use raw cane sugar or honey. Real, nourishing sweeteners from the earth that our bodies actually know how to process. But let’s be honest—people run from and demonize sugar these days, when the truth is:
Every single cell in your body runs on glucose!
**Sugar isn’t the enemy—**it’s the processed foods and the high-fructose corn syrup hiding in packaged snacks, sauces, and sodas that are the real problem and have caused problems in our bodies.
We wanted to meet people in the middle—creating a drink that’s clean, functional, and approachable, while still educating and advocating for real wellness.
So while xylitol may not be “perfect,” it’s a choice we made with intention, and it reflects our heart: to bring joy, nourishment, and honesty into every can.
As we develop future drinks, we may experiment with different natural sweeteners—but you can trust that I will always be committed to using quality ingredients that support your health, not harm it. Especially when it comes to hormone health, I’m not willing to cut corners.
We’re here to create something better—on purpose and with purpose.🤎
